What is in each serving
Two chews provide 150 mg of calcium HMB, 160 mg of leucine, three more amino acids, wild Alaskan salmon oil, green-lipped mussel, yeast beta-glucan and vitamin C — each with its amount beside it. No proprietary blend. What the chews cannot do is build muscle on their own; that is what walking, climbing and play do.

Formula and routine details
Leucine is an essential amino acid, and HMB is a compound the body makes from it. Valine, isoleucine, arginine and glutamine complete the amino-acid side. Salmon oil and green-lipped mussel add marine fatty acids, and yeast beta-glucan and vitamin C round out the panel. Every amount is on the label.
Offer the chews by hand or with food, at the daily amount for your dog's weight, and pair them with activity that suits your dog: walks, gentle hills, play. Muscle is kept by being used; the chews support that routine rather than replace it.
Older dogs lose muscle slowly, often first over the back legs and hips. The things that make the biggest difference are regular movement, a diet with enough good-quality protein, and a healthy weight. These chews are a nutritional addition to that, not a substitute for it, and sudden weakness or lameness needs a veterinarian, not a supplement.
These chews contain shellfish, fish, chicken and soy ingredients, so they are not for dogs with a known sensitivity to any of them. If your dog has a medical condition or takes medication, ask your veterinarian before starting. For dogs only.

Illustrative of the category, not any particular brand. If a label names HMB but not how much, you cannot compare it with anything.
The first eight weeks
Muscle changes slowly, and the eye adjusts to a dog it sees every day. Note three things on day 0 and check the same three at week four and week eight.

This is a daily food supplement, not a treatment. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. Your veterinarian is the right person to ask about weakness, lameness or weight loss.
Every canine HMB study we could verify — small, partly industry-linked, one with no effect — and at doses well above these chews.

Randomised, placebo-controlled, double-blinded crossover pilot in six dogs with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, 3 g HMB daily for 28 days. Daily activity and protein metabolism measures improved; strength and muscle tissue were not measured.

Canine HMB research is thin: one small pilot in a muscle disease, one industry-linked study in racing dogs, and a null result in senior dogs. The amounts studied were 1–3 g a day; these chews provide 150 mg of calcium HMB per two chews. We do not claim these results for this product.
Before you order
Not on its own. Movement and diet do the work; the chews are a nutritional addition. If your dog is losing muscle or weight quickly, see your veterinarian first.
It is the amount in two chews, and we print it so you can compare. The few canine HMB studies used 1–3 g a day; we do not claim their results for this product. You can read them in the research section below.
Do not use it. The chews contain green-lipped mussel (shellfish) and salmon oil (fish), as well as chicken and soy.
Yes. The chews contain 100 mg of green-lipped mussel per two chews, far less than a scoop of the powder, so the two do not overlap much. Count the chews' calories with the day's treats.
Ask your veterinarian before adding anything new, especially if your dog has a medical condition.
Give it at least eight weeks alongside regular activity, and compare notes rather than impressions. Some owners notice nothing, and that is worth knowing too.
